It took some time for the five of us to travel to the shooting range, but I was intrigued by it, so I did not mind. All five of the adults in the car were talking while I was sitting with perfect posture on the seat. I would not allow myself to become complacent.
As I stared out the windows I saw the trees passing at an alarming rate. Before this point in my life I had never seen the car contraption fly across the stones as fast as it did. It truly made me wonder where and when Id been reborn.
Eventually, after traveling a great distance, we reached a gate. Max, who was driving the car, stopped the car and rolled his window down. There was a little box on a pedestal next to the gate that Max interacted with for a time they called it a code. The gate slid open and the car rolled into the gun range.
When the car had stopped and my parents had extricated themselves excitedly, they had nearly forgotten to get me out. However, I would not let it be the case as I screamed curses in Greek. They let me out eventually, but not instantly.
As the glorious fresh air caught my breath, I noticed Max with a knife in his hand. He was cutting something that he handed to Helen. Helen walked over to me and stuffed the material in my ears. I was annoyed by their treatment of me, but would not show weakness by pulling it out.
Sarah held me in her arms while the other three adults grabbed little stubby things that seemed to serve no purpose. The four adults walked over to one of the ranges for pistols and set me down on a bench.
”None of the safety glasses fit, but he will be fine. ”
They all agreed readily with Max who had spoken. As I sat with my arms crossed on the bench, I heard a monstrous noise. It sounded like the clashes of so many swords condensed into a single jarring sound. After the sound, smoke drifted from the barrel of the gun in my fathers hand. It smelt more pungent than any smoke I had ever encountered. I coughed and closed my eyes.
Sarah turned around and stuck her tongue out at me.
”You deserved that you brat. ”
”Hey Sayrah, you
e pretty fat. ”
Words are weapons and I needed something that wasn a physical attack unfortunately.
She smirked and turned around.
He fired again, and this time I was not surprised by anything, but instead paid attention to everything. As Max pressed down on a trigger mechanism, fire and smoke exited the chamber from the end. Though the sound was loud, I had ear protection. I saw a target get knocked over. Though I did understand how the mechanism worked, I was extremely pleased to find that my parents were not pacifists.
They at least practiced with instruments of war. I sat back satisfied on my bench watching the targets and gauging which of the adults had the best accuracy. Max seemed to hit his targets pretty consistently, while the others did not. My estimation of my father grew a little more that day.
The days from that point were filled with me exercising daily, truly to a science. However, time flew and I grew ever stronger.
When I was three, my parents dropped me off at preschool for the first time. I stared at the car that was departing and the unfamiliar people who led me away.
I had learned to speak excellently from my parents over the past two years. Accordingly, I had learned extremely fast how to read when I had been given a book about war. Therefore, my parents had told me all about the pre-school before they had dropped me off, but I still found it burdensome.
I had turned three a week ago and on that day my family let me fire a twenty-two a few times. They told me that it was their plinking gun they used for squirrels. Basically it had extremely cheap ammunition because the bullets were very small. Therefore, it couldn really kill anything beyond a squirrel without getting very lucky.
I was a little annoyed with the fact that I had only been able to shoot a Twenty-two, but I was consoled when my parents gave me a book on all sorts of firearms for my birthday.
Regardless of all my achievements, I was treated like someone who could not tie their own shoe laces by my teachers at preschool. They wanted us to draw, play ridiculous games which were pointless, and sleep. However, I adamantly deigned not to do any of those things. Instead I exercised in the corner away from all the other children. I was taller and more muscular than any of the other children. I already had a six pack and my biceps bulged whenever I flexed them.
The preschool teachers, more like guardians, were watching me intently. They thought I was too extreme. They came over to me and asked me to stop. I ignored them.
After I finished my workout, I went up and asked one of the teachers for something with protein.
”Hello, I would like some meat or something with good protein. ”
”Well, we have some cheese puffs. ”
”That has no protein in it. Are you trying to make me fat? ”
”No, we just really don have anything besides that. ”
”I thought I was supposed to learn something. ”
”Well you never gave us the chance to teach you anything. ”
”Im giving you a chance now. If you teach me nothing, then I will inform my parents that coming here was a waste of time and money. ”
”You are surprisingly smart for your age, but you are also too arrogant. ”
”I don want your condescension. ”
The teacher brought me over to a little desk, gave me a piece of paper, and a writing utensil.
”Write all the letters of the alphabet that are listed on the wall over there. ”
It took me several minutes, but I did as she said.
”Th-that is excellent form! ”
”I know. I can also say the alphabet backwards without looking at that poster. ”
I then listed the whole alphabet out backwards. It had been tough to learn the English alphabet since Greek does have a lot of different figures, but I succeeded. I worked so hard on this sort of thing so that I could read my book about firearms.
The teacher had stared at me as though she was looking at a bar of gold. I did not particularly care for her stare, so I slept for the rest of the day.
Eventually, my parents picked me up and I told them that preschool truly was a waste of time and money. I then explained to them why that was the case.
”That preschool really is dreadful. Not only were there no protein filled meals, but there was nothing to do or learn there. The other kids were playing games, may Zeus strike them all down. ”
Max arched his eyebrows and replied.
”We can see why it would be boring for you, but we wanted you to meet friends. ”
”That is a lousy excuse. Why should I make friends with weaklings? ”
”Fine, youve seen through us, we wanted you to go to preschool so that we don always have to babysit you. ”
”Why not just leave me home. Preschool is a waste of your money with how well you have both taught me. ”
I knew how to flatter, but I was not proud of it.
”Thats my genius boy! ”
Screamed his mother in the car.
”Max, we should totally just leave him home and have him study math. ”
Max laughed at Helen and responded with tears in his eyes.
”You really are cruel, but that is a very good idea. ”
I did not understand what I had gotten myself into at the time, but I soon would come to know the horrors of math.
